We met in our hometown Beaver, UT in 2010. I was new to town and S caught my eye when I was at school one day. He is two years older then me, which I was a freshman so that made him a JR. He was in a few of my classes but was always hanging out with other girls so I kind of just backed off. I felt like he didn't really notice me too much. A few months went by and summer came and my cousin and I were walking down the street, when he pulled up. He was with a friend, and they invited us to go with them to the lake. I ended up just blowing him off.
A few weeks later, I finally gave him the time of day, and we went for a ride in the hills. After that we kind of just clicked and we started to hang out all the time. Time flew by, and one night I ended up getting in a little bit of trouble with S, and from there on out ... my dad didn't want me around him so I started to see other guys.
About a year later, we finally started to hang out again and catch up. I finally decided to just ignore what my dad had said and hang out with him anyways. We instantly became great friends and our personalities just clicked. I knew I was starting to fall in love with him. Then on Dec 3rd, 2011, he asked me to be his girl friend. I was so happy and I could tell he was so nervous when he was asking me, & looking back on it now I always just laugh about everything that happened.
S surprised me on October 3, 2013 with a gorgeous engagement ring & asking me to be Mrs. Shotwell. Of course, I replied with yes... & it was one of the happiest days of my life. We decided to get married sooner then later, and got married on November 16, 2013. Everyone thought I was crazy for only being 17 and planning a wedding in a month, but I loved every minute of it. It was the cutest, little country wedding... & was a perfect day as we sealed the deal & I became Mrs. Skyler Shotwell. We took off to our honeymoon in Hawaii and spent 7 long days in paradise as a newly married couple.
When we returned to the real world, we our options to discuss. Were we going to return to school? Was S going to join the military? Move back to our home town & just work? We were trying to sort out our life, and then it just clicked to us. S decided that he wanted to pursue his life, long dream of joining the air force. S has always had a dream of joining, ever since I had met him that was his goal. He wanted to join right after graduation, but he wasn't planning on meeting me, or falling in love.. so he waited. We felt that the time was right for him to enlist, and he joined in December 2013. I remember feeling that day really nervous because I hadn't talked to him all day & I wanted to know he was okay that he had passed all his tests. After hearing that he had enlisted, I was excited to be able to follow my husband on this journey that he had always dreamed of. S joined into the mechanic area, and is excited to depart to Basic Training in Texas on July 8th, 2014. So until this story continues, this is our life as the Shotwell family.
